4H participants prep their show dogs for a competition at the 1975 Oregon State Fair. The fairgrounds will now be operated by a new governor-appointed group.
The Oregon State Fairgrounds has a new operator.
Management and control of the Fairgrounds and Exposition Center will move from the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department to the Oregon State Fair Council, state officials said Thursday. The Parks Department will continue to support the Council as the transition continues
Oregon State Fair Council President Gene Derfler and Oregon State Parks Director Lisa Van Laanen signed the agreement yesterday.
The Oregon State Fair Council is a public corporation created by legislation approved by the Oregon State Legislature and signed into law in 2013. The council includes 11 governor-appointed members.
"With the signing of this agreement, the State Fair Council can now officially move forward to fulfill our mission of creating a new sustainable business model for a vibrant and financially stable Oregon State Fair and Exposition Center, " said Derfler, a former Oregon Senate President, in a release.

Go to Fall home and garden show
by toot48 I think the Fall home and garden show is next weekend at the Expo center (check online). You can meet and talk with some local landscape designer there. Some will help with the design and even go shopping for plants with you. Maybe take pictures with you of the current garden and ask for suggestions.
I met one gal who gives a free 15 minute consultation and I did get a few ideas from her.
Also go to the library and check out books and magazines to get ideas.
Go to the garden shows
by toot There is usually one at the Expo Center and another at the Convention Center that should be coming up soon before spring.
The one at the Expo is more 'home' stuff - hot tubs/spas, windows, etc. I find the one a the Convention Center has more 'garden' stuff. Either way they are fun and you can pick up a lot of information. I used a landscape designer I met at a show.
